My Favorite Photographs of 2022

2022 was a rough year. I certainly wasn’t as productive as I wanted.

As I started going through my images from this year, I was surprised by how many I liked. My first statement is true. I don’t think I got any better as a photographer. I didn’t shoot anywhere near as much as I should have. And yet, I got some gems both personally and professionally. Here are some of my favorites.

Mom and Remy

This year, my brother finally gave my mom the grandchild I never could. She hates pictures of her, but I love this one. He makes my mom so happy. Which is all I could ever ask for.

The shot is darker than I would like, but I had to take it quickly so she wouldn’t notice.

The one blessing of this year has been him. Remy is the sweetest little guy. He’s been forced to endure so much more than anyone should ever have to, and yet… when he smiles, its like the sun coming out for the first time.

My favorite model.

Her mom likes to take photos around their birthday. Obviously she turned 7 this year. Everything about this shot is perfect. ..especially the subject.

My Godson

I don’t get to see him very often, so I try not to spend that time taking pictures of him. But I just got my new Canon m6 Mk 2 and wanted to try it out. We went for a walk in the park, so I took a few shots here and there.

What a handsome kid. And mischievous.

My baby brother.

As with my earlier sentiment, it is my great joy in life to see my brother with his son. I know this has been the hardest year of his life. I am so proud of him for all he does and all that he tirelessly endures.

This was from Remy’s Christening.

It was my honor to be asked to photograph their wedding. Kyle Smith is one of my favorite people. I love this shot of him and his now-bride sitting on the porch of the house where they were married.

The Legend

This year I tried to start a new series of images. The idea was that I would photograph people that I admire, people who exemplified greatness. So far the only person who even answered my messages has been Jason Lanier. The man who taught me everything I know. I try not to be a fanboy around people I admire, but Jason is the best.

Speaking of Jason- I assisted him on a shoot a few months ago. I took a quick cell phone shot because I liked the angle. Sophia Baser is gorgeous and very nice. I was hoping to do a shoot with her this year, but it didn’t happen. Maybe in 2023.

The 45s playing at The Pour House in Metairie.

Jak Locke’s guitar

This is from the same show.

Destiny Nevills & Khristian Anthony

One of the best images I’ve ever taken. Destiny and Khristian are absolutely killing it here. The colors and setting are perfect. I genuinely think this belongs in a magazine.

Similarly, this image of Callie Courville looks like a fashion shoot. Its perfect.

This is me.

Not to be self-aggrandizing, but the last two are of me.

This was shot with my iphone. Set on a timer, upside down and sitting against my window at sunset. I don’t remember what inspired the idea, but it just works.

Now let’s see what 2023 brings.
