Good Man, Great Artist
I know this guy. He is unfailing kind and decent. These are qualities I find endlessly respectable in human beings. And sadly, they are often in rare supply.
His name is Travis Hymel.
He’s one of the best artists I know. Through our friendship, I’ve had the pleasure of watching him grow. When I met him, he was drawing pop culture prints. Iron Man, Harley Quinn… things he would sell at comic book conventions.
In the intervening years, he has become a great artist. His most famous work has been drawing (and in one instance, writing) stories for the official Trailer Park Boys comic book by Devil’s Due Publishing.
The last couple of years have thankfully been busy, but Travis has always taken the time to help me out when I needed something done. Like this month when I needed a design for my nephew’s team at a charity run.
I wanted to take this moment to say thank you.
You can most easily find Travis’ work on Instagram. You can also watch him draw on his twitch channel, Monday and Wednesday afternoons. I hope you’ll check out both.
He’s recently been working on daily Superman sketches for the month of October. Artists call it Ink-tober. Here are the initial pencils for two of them. The finished images are available for purchase.
